PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.

PE Daily Deviations - So you want to suggest DDs?You're browsing deviantART or are simply checking your message centre and find a wonderful art piece. You want to suggest it as a Daily Deviation because you believe it truly deserves to be seen by the community as a whole. But how to properly suggest a DD? This article will explain the process.
Things to check before sending a suggestion:
The first thing you need to check is if the artist has been given a Daily Deviation in the past 6 months. Volunteers cannot feature anyone who's had a DD in that period of time with no exceptions, as this has been hard-coded into deviantART's system.
"But how do I check an artist's Daily Deviations?" you may ask. Simply go to their gallery, click browse and scroll down. If they have any DDs, you'll be able to find a link to them at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you can add "/dds" after their profile url and click enter on your browser's address bar.

ROAM Kickstarter - Open world survival game.So yeah, I love me some games. I think that much is obvious to anyone passing by my part of the site. Got character designs for games, characters who LOVE games, fighty-gamey pixel sprites, the whole megillah!
Though I grew up on a steady diet of fighting games and RPGs, lately I've grown to love open world stuff. And I don't mean open world in the eh.. Grand Theft Auto sense? More like Fallout, Skyrim, Terraria, and the can't-come-out-soon-enough-Starbound. I even run my own Minecraft server with enough mods to choke a mammoth. (Incidentally there are mammoths on the server. Thank you Mo' Creatures!)

First of all, you should know that I ate a rotten banana this morning for breakfast...and it has made me feel EXCELLENT. I'm telling you, a banana's bruised bits should always be consumed. They are full of sugary goodness.

ATAInterview is the room where the interview shall be held in live time. Users can watch the interview in live time, but will not be able to comment in that room to reduce text clutter.

During an interview, you must be in both chatrooms. One is where you watch the interview, and one is where you ask the questions.

"When is the next interview being held? And which artist is being interviewed next?"

Answer: To be notified of our interview schedule, please join our group to become a member. It is also highly recommended that you join our FaceBook or Twitter pages ( [link] and [link] ) as well, so that you can be notified of upcoming interviews without having to regularly login to DA to check. Watching our Facebook or Twitter pages is the best way to be notified of any last minute interviews and other breaking news.

"How can I ask one of my favorite artists a question during the interview?"

Answer: When a live interview with that artist is in progress, join the dAmn chatroom "AtAChat" here --> [link] . While you are there, you can ask questions that you would like the artist to answer. The interviewer will pick from the questions that are asked in the chatroom to give to the artist in live time in the interview room. The artist will answer your question from there. You will get credit for your interview question. Note that you must be a group member (or watching us on Facebook / Twitter) to be notified when interviews with your favorite artists are taking place.

"I'm in AtAChat right now, but I don't see the interview! What's going on?"

Answer: To participate in the interview, you must be in both chatrooms: AtAChat and ATAInterview, which is located here --> [link] . You will watch the interview with the artist in live time in ATAInterview, while asking questions and chatting with fellow fans in AtAChat.

"I'm in ATAInterview right now and am watching the interview, but I can't send messages in the chatroom! I want to ask the artist a question! What's going on?"

Answer: To participate in the interview, you must be in both chatrooms: ATAInterview and AtAChat, which is located here --> [link] . You will watch the interview with the artist in live time in ATAInterview, while asking questions and chatting with fellow fans in AtAChat.

"Why do I have to be in both chatrooms, ATAInterview and AtAChat, to participate in the chat?"

Answer: We do this to prevent both spam and text clutter. Over a hundred people can be in the chatroom at one time, so it can get cluttered with text. Having the interview going live in a separate room as "the question and chatting room" makes it easier for all members to watch the interview and keep track of what the artist is saying without becoming overwhelmed by text. It also prevents the artist from becoming overwhelmed with dozens of questions at once.

"I keep asking my question over and over again, but the interviewer isn't picking my question to give to the artist! "

Answer: Please understand that as much as we would love to pick ALL our members' questions, we can get hundreds of questions posted during one interview, and it just isn't possible for the artist to answer them all. If we don't pick your question, it does not mean that it was not a good question. We just have to filter the number of questions that we receive down to smaller amount in order to avoid overwhelming the artist. If your question is not picked right away, please do not rapidly repost it over and over again. We allow you to repost your question a few times if the chatroom is moving quickly (sometimes the interviewer may just not have the chance to see all the questions for this reason), but out of consideration for others, please avoid spamming the room with the same question. It could result in you being kicked out or even banned from the room by the chatroom moderators. Thank you for your understanding.

"Can I recommend one of my favorite artists (or even myself) to be interviewed with ASKtheARTIST?"

Answer: Of course! We openly accept recommendations of deviantART artists to host interviews with. However, please understand that we typically only interview artists with already medium to large followings (as explained below). Although we do our best to host interviews with as many artists as possible, we can not guarantee that your artist recommendation will be chosen or that recommended artists will agree to be interviewed. If your artist recommendation is not chosen, it does not mean that we "didn't like" the artist or their work. There is an endless amount of incredibly talented and deserving artists on deviantART who we would love to interview, but due to scheduling and the personal life of the interviewers, it is just not possible for us to have the opportunity or the time to interview them all. Thank you again for your understanding.

"Why does ASKtheARTIST only hold interviews with artists that already have medium to large followings of fans?"

Answer: The reason for this is based on the fan-contribution method that we use to conduct interviews. We have the artists' followers ask the artists most of the questions during the interviews. Therefore, if an artist only has 4 followers, for instance, then there wouldn't be many questions for the artist to answer or many people to watch the interview. If an artist does not have a large number of followers, this of course does not mean that they are not incredibly talented or deserving as artists. As said before, there is an endless amount incredibly skilled and deserving artists on deviantART. The system of fan-contributed interview questions that we happen to use simply restricts us to interviewing those with medium to large sized followings. Thank you once again for your understanding.
